Pastor Mitty Collier
I Owe It All To The Word
Pastor Mitty began her career singing in church and as a part of the
Hayes Ensemble and the Lloyd Reese Singers. After being discovered by Ralph
Bass, scout for Chess records, Mitty was signed to the label in 1960. With the
powerful soul-gospel voice Mitty was best at singing ballads like “I Had a Talk
with My Man,” a 1964 Chess single and “Sharing You,” a Top Ten R&B hit
single and her first charting single “I’m Your Part Time Love,” an answer to
Little Johnny Taylor’s “Part Time Love”.
In 1969 Mitty left the Chess imprint and signed with the Peachtree
label from 1969-1972. Later in 1972 Mitty left R&B music altogether.
Mitty
established a community outreach program, "Feed A Neighbor" (FAN) in
Chicago, IL. In 1985, and received the key to the city of Birmingham, AL from
Mayor Arrington for that endeavor. She founded the “More Like Christ Christian
Fellowship Church” and was ordained pastor by Bishop Lance Davis of the
Christian Fellowship Ministries in 2003.
