The Original Bells of Joy with Friends

Take a trip back to the golden age of Gospel with the Bells of Joy on their latest release, Second Time Around. Over 40 years in the making, this is the real deal! Here are what some are saying about The Bells:

"...A primer on black spiritual music supercharged with leg-shaking rhythmsthat makes modern rock and roll seem pallid by comparison." —Joe Nick Patowski, Texas Monthly

"...it's unadorned presentation sounds as pure as a small-town revival on a spring Sunday." —Margaret Moser, The Austin Chronicle

"...I love the Bells of Joy. They're the best gospel group going. I hope they live forever. —Willie Nelson

The Bells of joy were the first black gospel group to sell more than a million singles and are still on Billboards top 100 list. It has been a long road for the Bells of Joy. They have recorded for Duke/ Peacock, Chess/Checker, Nashboro records and have toured all throughout the USA.

"Every gospel band had to belong to a church or they just could not get into the circuit," Johnnie May Littlefield and Mary Watson recall. "Every weekend we would follow the band to the gig and on the way we would listen to the Lavada Durst show on KVET Radio. The band did everything together: their hair, they dressed up in identical suits, they ever tired their shoes together, and before every show everyone prayed together. Family, Church and band all came first. " At the time when their songs hit the chart, A.C. Littlefield was working at Gage Furniture and A.D. Watson was working at Scarborough.

Everyone had to wuit their jobs for a year to go out on the road. "Yes, it was hard but somehow we just did not notice. The fellowship we had overcame everything. Just like now, the Bells are living the life they sing about. This is what has kept them going since 1949." Some of the face have changed and they have traded in lace up shoes for slip-ons, but still to this day the heart and soul of life is in each of the songs the Bells of Joy sing.
