In 1960, a 16-year old girl walked into Huey P. Meaux’s barbershop. Who would have known this girl would turn out to be the First Lady of Texas Soul and Blues. Barbara Lynn has performed on American Bandstand, played with all the greats, toured the world, and had her hit songs recorded by the likes of Aretha Franklin, the Rolling Stones, and Otis Redding, to name a few. But most importantly, her songs capture the special moments in life that we all hold dear in our hearts.

Barbara Lynn grew up in Beaumont, Texas. She studied piano, but the moment she heard Elvis Presley she switched to guitar. In high school, she started a band called “Bobbie Lynn and the Idols.” Joe Barry caught her act and told Huey P. Meaux (aka the Crazy Cajun). Huey recorded her in New Orleans at studio Cosimo’s and released the tracks on the Jamie label. During these recordings, she recorded her hit “You’ll Lose a Good Thing,” and in no time she was being hailed as the Queen of the Gulf Coast Soul.
