About Richard Earl
Richard Earl's destiny was told when he met his life long friend Geater Davis at the age of nine. Richard soon realized he loved singing. He credits Geater for giving him his vocal style.
In the 60's, Richard got together with his friends at Carver High School and started his first band called the Rock'n Ravens. The Ravens, which also included Lil' Ervin, played dances, school functions, and nightclubs in South Texas. The Ravens backed up artists such as Ted Taylor and ZZ Hill at the club Slippery Hill in Dibol, Texas.
Richard moved to Beaumont, Texas in 1970 in order to get a job as a ship fitter. At night he still continued to sing in bands such as Clifton White and the Royal Knights. Two years later, Richard met Ervin Charles and started playing with the Soul Lovers. After the Soul Lovers broke up, Richard started gigging with the New Image and Carl Mason. Richard and Ervin remained close friends after playing together in the Soul Lovers and still gigged together years down the road.
Greyhound Blues is a tribute to their relationship.
